In fact, it’s become such a success in Italy that it is now the 4th most planted white grape. This isn’t reinventing the wheel here, it’s just a well-made, familiar-in-style, and immensely delicious wine. It sees 40% new oak with periodic battonage (that’s the stirring of the lees in barrel to build texture and complexity). You’ll fine pineapple and tropical fruit, along with hints of chamomile and vanilla, all carried by balanced acidity in an elegant and fresh wine. It’s stylish and Italian, two words which are as synonymous as chardonnay and happiness.

Pronounced cashew, almost cashew paste. Nutmeg and spice overlay a creamy, rich texture. Whole lemon flesh sits squarely centre-stage with little licks of zest, buttered popcorn, and mineral depth giving it a complex aroma. This is very fine chardonnay, as good as I can remember drinking from Margaret River to be frank. As is so often the case, quality breeds scarcity; this is seriously limited so snap it up.

This elite chardonnay from Thompson Estate was handpicked with only the best parcels of fruit making the final cut. After a gentle whole bunch press, the wine was transferred to a combination of brand new and seasoned french oak barrels for a good 9 months. This wine is precise, clean and crisp with elegant aromatics of nectarine, green apple and orange blossom. A full flavoured palate boasts citrusy vibes and ripe peaches surrounded by a lingering oak spice. It'll only promise to develop in the bottle, so if you like to test your patience, you're in good hands here.
