If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world. Luckily, there’s none of that pomposity here.

Why do we love this case?

Here’s a mix covering some of the very best regions in the world. From perfumed and pretty to dark and intense, there’s something for every occasion and every food pairing.

Included in this case:

1x Wild Earth Pinot Noir 2021

Red — Pinot Noir

Central Otago — New Zealand

Wild Earth are a solid mofo favourite and absolute darlings of the wine press, too. Crafting exceptional wines year after year, it is always a pleasure to taste every new vintage. From a ripping Bannockburn single site in Central Otago, this wine has everything: elegance, grace, poise, power. There is a seductive bouquet of black fruits on the nose, with a touch of tertiary mushroom complexity. Expect dark cherry, plum and thyme on the palate, this has it all in check, composed and confident. Whether you’re looking to impress at a dinner party next week or hide a few bottles away - this is the pinot for the job.

You’d pay $80 full price.

1x Seville Estate Single Vineyard Series Gembrook Pinot Noir 2021

Red — Pinot Noir

Yarra Valley — Australia

Absolutely stunning. A knockout wine from head to toe. Aromatically enticing right out of the gate. The nose is freshly sweet, Turkish delight and winter strawberry with a confected, coulis style smashed berry mix. Creamy too - maybe a bit of Eaton Mess, all told. When this wine was first reviewed by Halliday there was mention of it being quite tightly wound, but that ball of energy has unfurled now and what remains is an inviting, generous, plush palate of red-fruited bliss. Peppy acidity gives zip and zeal to the juicy fruit - a brilliantly compiled wine that's looking just the part.

You’d pay $90 full price.

1x Matahiwi Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2021

Red — Pinot Noir

Wairarapa — New Zealand

Pinot is a really tough grape to handle at the best of times, let alone when on a budget. Every now and then, though, you do find some gems. This is one of those. Made by the team at Matahiwi, who are known to over-deliver, this pinot does, and then some! Light and bright, it ticks the fruit, complexity and pinosity boxes with a flourish. A firm favourite of our customers and staff, excitement levels get pretty high when Matahiwi enters the building.

You’d pay $60 full price.

1x Pierre Naigeon Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits 2020

Red — Pinot Noir

Burgundy — France

All the components of a Burgundian winner, and that's no easy crowd to stand out in. What I love about this wine particularly is the celebration of fruit - so often Burgundy can get bogged down in the 'other' of the terroir: wet earth, barnyard, mushroom. This has got those layers of complexity, but sitting neatly on top of that is bright, exuberant red, blue and even black fruits (by way of dark cherry). Top notch. Full marks. Brilliant booze.

You’d pay $120 full price.

1x Principia Pinot Noir 2019

Red — Pinot Noir

Mornington Peninsula — Australia

Principia are, in every sense of the word, a Mornington Peninsula Icon - not just for the great wines they have produced, but for their ability to do it every vintage, whatever the conditions may be. This is more pure excellence from one of the great pinot noir regions of the world. A fresh burst of near-confectionary raspberry leads riper, richer strawberries. It is completely classic Mornington Peninsula pinot noir; elegant spice and juicy palate weight framed by fine grain tannin and spiky acidity. Literally mouthwatering.

You’d pay $80 full price.

1x Te Pa Signature Series Pinot Noir 2020

Red — Pinot Noir

Marlborough — New Zealand

You could be forgiven for thinking Marlborough is all about savvy b, but chat to the locals and they can’t stop carrying on about pinot noir (and chardy for that matter, but that’s a tipple for another day). The Te Pa Signature pinot has all the classic elegance and poise coupled with intensity and focus, but its the fruit that’s knocking our socks off. Brimming with pulpy dark red cherry and winter strawberry, the fruit persists from start to finish. A little bit of oak nuance and some fine grain tannin gives the wine shape and structure. There’s plushness and generosity set against a tart, sappy backdrop. This is a wine in perfect balance showing its full potential.

You’d pay $55 full price.
