Australia really does have an embarrassment of riches with the chardonnay that we produce. We love good chardy and we know good chardy. The GC chardonnay from By Farr is a Victorian icon and showcases the brilliant levels we can achieve with this variety. From the same vineyard as the Cote pinot, a close planted, high density vineyard on an exposed hill which is rich in a variety of soil types including limestone, clay and black volcanic soil imparting the power, length and minerality that this wine is known for. The full suite of winemaking skills are on display here; fruit is hand-picked and whole bunch pressed with 30% new oak supported with lees stirring and malolactic fermentation. All the trimmings that great chardy posseses are worked seamlessly into a wine that is both rich and powerful, yet elegant and refined.
