That’s not an exaggeration. This is his top wine, the Triptych Reserve. It comes from a single vineyard in Wilyabrup, the ‘golden mile’ so to speak of Margaret River. Handpicked Gin Gin and Clone 5 grapes were picked in the cool of night before undergoing a gentle whole-bunch press and wild barrel ferment in 28% new French oak. After eight months in barrel, the wine was bottled and less than 100 cases were produced. My own notes from the tasting table: excellent, minerally, beautifully integrated oak, vivid acid, nutty but linear, lemon, subtle honey, mascarpone, sherbert, powerful but without heft.
